The United States claimed redemption with a resounding win against hosts Canada in the Women's Under-19 World Lacrosse Championship final in Peterborough.

The US had succumbed to their North American rivals 9-8 in the World Championship final in Edinburgh four years ago but stifled the hosts with their superior defensive play at the Justin Chiu Stadium.

At Justin Chiu Stadium it was one-way traffic as the Americans cruised to a 13-3 victory.

"I think it’s the most amazing feeling that we could’ve asked for," said US star Leah Holmes.

"We feel so proud to wear the red, white and blue, and to be able to go out and represent our country.

"To go out and redeem ourselves from four years ago, and bring the gold back to the US is so special."

Japan secured fifth place with a 12-7 victory against New Zealand.

Such was their dominance in the tournament, five US players – Brianne Gross, Rachel Hall, Maddie Jenner, Izzy Scane and Caitlyn Wurzburger – were selected for the tournament's world team.

Joining them were finalists Kylea Dobson and Eve Hritzuk of Canada, Australia's Madi Copeland, Kokoro Nakazawa of Japan and England's Hannah Thurston.
