The ski jumping venue being built for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games inBeijing will become the world's first permanent ski jumping course, according to the local Shijingshan district Government where it is located.

The China Internet Information Center reported that the in Zhangjiakou venue, to be housed at the New Shougang High-end Industry Comprehensive Service Park, is due for a progress report at the end of this year.

The report revealed the main structure and equipment installation will be ready to host test events by the end of 2019.

The ski jumping course is 164 metres long, 60m tall at its peak and measures 34m at its widest part.

Along with the surrounding hotels and a research and development centre, the area will span to 117,481 square metres with 43,364m² of renovation work scheduled and new construction on 74,117m² of land.

As a permanent structure, the ski jumping venue has been named an important legacy of Beijing 2022. 

While its ski jumping functions will be kept for training and competition events, the area will be used for summer activities such as zip-line rides and grass skiing. 

In June International Olympic Committee Coordination Commission chair Juan Antonio Samaranch declared his satisfaction at the progress of Beijing 2022 after visiting snow and sliding venues in Zhangjiakou and Yanqing on a three-day trip to China.

Located almost 200 kilometres northwest of Beijing, Zhangjiakou will host snowboarding, freestyle skiing, cross-country skiing, ski jumping, Nordic combined and biathlon competitions during the 2022 Winter Olympics.
