The Canadian Paralympic Committee confirmed its team, including 73 athletes competing at their first ever elite multi-sport Games, including all 13 members of the Para swimming squad.

Of the 92 male Para athletes and 59 females, the oldest is javelin thrower Martha Sandoval Gustafson, age 69.

She won seven medals - six in athletics and one in swimming - at the 1984 Paralympic Games. 

The youngest athlete is 14-year-old Para swimmer Colleen Cloetta. 

Seven Para badminton athletes and one Para taekwondo representative, Anthony Cappello, are in the squad, as those sports debut at the Parapan American Games.

The biggest Canadian representation comes in Para athletics, with 26 competitors aiming for gold in Peru.

Chef de Mission is Stephanie Dixon, who won 19 medals from three Paralympic Games in Para swimming. 

Dixon said: "This is a fantastic group of dedicated individuals who will wear the maple leaf with pride, passion and integrity. 

"They have all earned their places, and I know are working hard to be ready for the Games and put forth their absolute best performances. 

"These Games are such an important event for many athletes to gain multi-sport experience and qualification opportunities on the pathway to Tokyo 2020 and beyond.

"I cannot wait to touch down in Lima and I hope all of Canada will get loud and proud and make sure these athletes know the nation is behind them."

The Games take place between August 23 and September 1.
