Ukraine's Danylo Fil'Chenko finished first in the open men's tricks preliminary round on day three of the International Waterski and Wakeboard Federation World Waterski Championships in Putrajaya.

Fil'Chenko managed a score of 11,620 points at the Malaysian city's Watersports Complex.

Mexico's Patricio Font came second with 11,330 points and France's Pierre Ballon ranked third with 11,110.

Defending champion Adam Pickos of the United States had to settle for 12th place with 9,770 points.

Also taking place today was the open women's slalom preliminary round with France's Manon Costard leading the way.

She is followed by defending champion Regina Jaquess of the US and Canada's Jaimee Bull.

In the open women's jump preliminary round, New Zealand's Sade Ferguson finished first with a leap of 46.5 metres, holding off Ukraine's Stanislava Prosvetova with 42.1m and home favourite Aaliyah Yoong Hanifah with 37.2m.

Competition is due to continue tomorrow with the open men's slalom, open women's tricks and open men's jump preliminaries.
