The ski jumping venue under construction for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics will be ready to hold test events by the end of the year, it has been reported.

Chinese news agency Xinhua said that the main structure would be finished at the facility in the Zhangjiakou cluster, as well as the installation of equipment.

Measuring in at 164 metres long, the highest point of the venue is 60m while the widest part of the track is 34m.

Building work has taken place over an area of 13.5 hectares.

Peng Yang, the deputy director of industrial development at building firm Beijing Shougang Construction Investment, told Xinhua that the venue would be "beautiful and smooth".

It is hoped the ski jumping venue will be a legacy of Beijing 2022 as it will remain in place following the Games.

Organisers have claimed it will be the world's first "permanent" ski jumping course.

As well as competitions and training on the snow, activities such as grass skiing and zip-lining are planned to be held there during the summer.

Concerts will also take place at the venue.

Located almost 200 kilometres northwest of Beijing, Zhangjiakou will host snowboarding, freestyle skiing, cross-country skiing, ski jumping, Nordic combined and biathlon competitions during the 2022 Winter Olympics.
