Nigeria defeated Senegal to successfully retain the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Women's AfroBasket title in Dakar

Meeting in the final for the second consecutive tournament, Nigeria edged past hosts Senegal 60-55 at the Dakar Arena in Senegal's capital. 

Nigeria won the first quarter 14-10, before triumphing in the second and third quarters 18-14 and 16-13 respectively. 

Senegal managed to record a 18-12 victory in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough to turn the game around.

Nigeria's Evelyn Akhator was the highest-scorer for the winners, managing 14 points.

The Senegalese side had also fallen foul to Nigeria in the final of the 2017 event, suffering a 65-48 defeat in Mali. 

Mali secured third place after beating Mozambique 66-54.

Despite playing for the losing team, Leia Tânia do Bastião Dongue impressed after scoring 22 points.

Today's matches concluded the nine-day tournament, contested by 12 teams in total.
