Jake Magahey, Luca Urlando, Jake Mitchell and Carson Foster combined to clock a time of 7 min 8.37sec at the Hungarian capital's Duna Arena.

It bettered the previous mark of 7:10.95, set by Hungary at the 2017 FINA World Junior Championships in Indianapolis.

Russia’s Nikita Danilov, Aleksandr Shchegolev, Maksim Aleksandrov and Aleksandr Egorov finished second in 7:11.90

Australia’s Thomas Neill, Mitchell Tinsley, Thomas Hauck and Alexander Grant came third in 7:15.06.

Victory was the US’s fourth of the day with the first coming courtesy of Josh Matheny’s thrilling win in the men’s 200m breaststroke final.

A dramatic attack from Maheny, the silver medallist in the men’s 100m breaststroke and a member of the gold medal-winning team in the mixed 4x100m medley relay, proved successful as he triumphed in a Championship record-breaking time 2:09.40.

Japan’s Shoma Sato controlled the race until the very last metres, but ultimately had to settle for the silver medal in 2:09.56.

Compatriot Yuta Arai rounded off the podium in 2:10.84

There were also US’s wins through Torri Huske in the women’s 50m butterfly and Justina Kozan in the women’s 200m individual medley.

Huske prevailed in 25.70 with Belarus’ Anastasiya Shkurdai second in 25.77 and fellow American Claire Curzan third in 25.81.

It secured her a third medal of the event after taking gold in the mixed 4x100m medley relay and silver in the women’s 100m freestyle.

Kozan, meanwhile, triumphed in the women’s 200m individual medley in 2:11.55.

It was the first individual title for the 15-year-old, after success in the women's 4x200m freestyle relay.

The silver medal went to Spain’s Alba Vazquez Ruiz, the winner of the women’s 400m individual medley on day one.

The Iberian touched the wall in 2:13.43 and was followed by Japan’s Mei Ishihara in 2:13.52.

Among today’s other stand-out performers was Australia’s Lani Pallister, who won the women’s 400m freestyle event in a Championship record-breaking time of 4:05.42 to add to her victory in the women's 800m freestyle.

It improved the previous mark of 4:06.17, set by her compatriot Tamsin Cook at the 2015 FINA World Junior Championships in Singapore.

Canada’s Emma O’Croinin was the silver medallist in 4:08.11, while the US’s Rachel Stege took the bronze in 4:08.30.

Today’s three other gold medallists were Czech Republic’s Jan Čejka in the men’s 50m backstroke in 25.08, Russia’s Evgenia Chikunova in the women’s 100m breaststroke in 1:06.93, and Ukraine’s Vladyslav Bukhov in the men’s 50m freestyle in 22.13.

The US’s Wyatt Davis finished runner-up to Čejka in 25.23, 0.12 seconds faster than third-placed Thomas Ceccon of Italy.

Chikunova was closely followed by the US’s Kaitlyn Dobler, second in 1:06.97, while Great Britain’s Kayla van der Merwe came third in 1:07.06.

Bukhov, meanwhile, held off Americans David Curtiss and Adam Chaney, who clocked times of 22.14 and 22.40 respectively.

The women's 50m backstroke and men's 50m butterfly semi-finals were also held today, with the finals tomorrow.

Australia’s Bronte Job was the fastest qualifier for the women's 50m backstroke final in 27.83, while Russia’s Shchegolev was the quickest qualifier for the men's 50m butterfly in 23.57.
