The African Table Tennis Federation (ATTF) has announced that Tunis will host the continent's qualification tournament for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Eight votes were given to the Tunisian capital during the ATTF's Annual General Meeting in Rabat with a rival Algerian bid receiving five.

Four places in both the men's and women's Olympic tournaments will be available in Tunis with a venue and dates yet to be announced.

Countries will be allowed to enter two players into each draw.

Egypt have already secured the sole African spots available in the Tokyo 2020 team competitions.

"We have the required experience to stage a world class tournament and the Olympic Qualifying Tournament would not be an exception," said Tunisia Table Tennis Federation President Lotfi Guerfel.

"We will be hosting the Africa Top 16 Cup as well and we are ready to welcome the whole continent."

Nigeria's Quadri Aruna starred for Africa at the Rio 2016 Olympics, reaching the men's quarter-finals before defeat to China's eventual champion Ma Long.

He will be among the players expected to line-up in Tunis.

The ATTF gathered on the sidelines of the African Games, which are ongoing in Morocco's capital.

It was also agreed to stage the 2020 African Senior Championships in Cameroon while the cadets and juniors event is set for Madagascar.
