The International University Sports Federation (FISU) are gearing up for the fourth edition of the International Day of University Sport, taking place on September 20.

The International Day of University Sport promotes university sport values and activities worldwide, reaffirming the importance of sport in the daily lives of students.

Last year's edition set participation records, with 97 countries taking part and nearly 500 sporting and recreational activities organised for the occasion.

The Hungarian University Sports Federation organised more than 160 activities and involved around 180,000 participants alone.

This year, universities will compete in the University Step Challenge, held from September 1 to 20.

The Russian Student Sport Union (RSSU) is planning to hold more than 60 events across the Russia to mark the day, while Estonia will celebrate the occasion in Tartu and Tallinn.

“It is vital that we acknowledge the International Day of University Sport and get as many students as possible, to participate in different sports activities,” said Marek Doronin of the Estonian Academic Sports Federation.

“The number of participants have almost doubled every year and we hope to have the same impact as previous years.”

Elsewhere, FISU America Futsal Championship will begin on September 20 with a Opening Ceremony in the Argentinian city of Misiones.
