Budapest will welcome the International Modern Pentathlon Union (UIPM) Pentathlon World Championships tomorrow, with the Laser Run World Championships set to be incorporated for the first time.

Competition is set to begin tomorrow at Kincsem Park, running until next Sunday (September 8).

It is the fifth time that the Hungarian capital has hosted the Pentathlon World Championships, having organised it in 1969, 1979, 1989 and 1999.

This year will see action in the men and women's individual, team and relay events.

A mixed relay will also be contested on Sunday, timed to coincide with the second Pierre de Coubertin Pentathlon Day, a global celebration of the legacy of the founder of modern pentathlon.

Three places at next year's Olympic Games in Tokyo are available in both the men and women's individual competitions.

A number of athletes have already qualified for Tokyo 2020 at competitions such as the Pan American Games in Lima and the European Modern Pentathlon Championships.

The fifth edition of the Laser Run World Championships will also be contested over the week, taking place alongside the Pentathlon World Championships for the first time.

Later this month, Budapest is due to host the inaugural World Urban Games from September 13 to 15, in which laser-run will be a showcase sport.
