Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) President Jeevan Ram Shrestha will be challenged by Umesh Lal Shrestha for the top job at the organisation's Elective General Assembly on September 6.

The contest will be a re-run of the 2015 Presidential ballot which also involved the two men.

Jeevan won on that occasion, 17-9, as he took over from Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan.

Former vice president Umesh has now opted to throw his hat into the ring again.

Nine candidates have put themselves forward for five vice president roles, according to The Himalayan Times.

Incumbent Jyoti Rana, the only female member among the NOC's ruling Committee, is standing again alongside members Tej Bahadur Gurung, Ashok Ratna Bajracharya, Rajiv Shrestha and Samim Miya Ansari.

Newcomers Sunil Kumar Shrestha, Pushpa Das Shrestha, Purendra Bikram Lakhe and Chatura Nanda Rajvaidhya have also entered themselves into the race.

Lakhe is also challenging for secretary general against member Nilendra Raj Shrestha, while Ratan Tandan is running unopposed to keep his treasurer position.

Rajvaidhya was beaten by Rajiv for the role of deputy secretary general in 2015, losing after a coin toss when the votes were tied.

Pitamber Timsina is the only candidate for deputy secretary general this time.

Representatives from 27 national associations will cast their votes for the various roles.

It comes after the NOC claimed to have solved a dispute which saw a rival body run by Rukma Shumsher Rana set-up.

"It is a regular process [the Elective Assembly] but it is distinct than the previous ones," said Jeevan to the Himalayan Times.

"We all are excited as we are hoping to end the long-standing controversy once and for all after this General Assembly.

"We believe there will no existence of parallel Olympic Committees in the country after this General Assembly.

"Basically, we agreed to take the Olympic Movement to the new heights together."
