New Zealand won the under-23/junior mixed relay title as the International Triathlon Union (ITU) World Triathlon Grand Final concluded in Lausanne.

The team of Hannah Knighton, Tayler Reid, Ainsley Thorpe and Hayden Wilde finished just seven seconds clear of Britain to seal first place.

Thorpe and Wilde were part of a young team that secured a first ever mixed relay team victory for New Zealand at the ITU World Triathlon Series event in Edmonton last month.

Their rapid rise continued in Lausanne as the quartet fought back to take victory.

New Zealand clocked 1 hour 06min 50sec to win gold as Britain were pushed into second place, coming home in 1:06:57.

Olivia Mathias secured a second silver medal of the week in Lausanne alongside Kate Waugh, Alex Yee and Benjamin Dijkstra.

Mathias had taken silver behind Emilie Morier of France in the women's under-23 race on Friday (August 30).

The United States team of Taylor Knibb, Tamara Morgan, Seth Rider and Darr Smith claimed the bronze medal in 1:07:22.
