Argentina's Gustavo Fernández and Dylan Alcott of Australia will aim to make history by completing the calendar year grand slam at the US Open wheelchair event in New York.

Fernández arrives for the final grand slam of 2019 having triumphed in the men's singles at the Australian Open, the French Open and Wimbledon.

The 25-year-old will also bid to win the US Open for the first time at this year's event, which begins tomorrow and concludes on Sunday (September 8).

Japan's 23-time grand slam champion Shingo Kunieda and defending champion Alfie Hewett of Britain - winner of the singles and doubles titles last year - are expected to be the main challengers to Fernández.

Alcott has also won the first three grand slams of the year in the quad singles and will go for the calendar sweep at Flushing Meadows.

He is also hoping to claim the year's grand slam in the quad doubles.

Three-time US Open quad singles champion and six-time finalist David Wagner of the United States will target ending Alcott's dominance at his home tournament.

Defending champion Diede de Groot of the Netherlands, whose pursuit of the calendar grand slam was ended when she finished runner-up at Wimbledon, headlines the women's singles entries.

Pan American Games singles bronze medallist Dana Mathewson of the US has been handed a wildcard and will hope to spring a surprise by lifting the title.
