Fawn Girard finished on top of the women's barebow rankings after day two of qualification at the World Archery 3D Championships in Lac la Biche.

The American led overnight in Canada with a score of 445, and increased that to 891 to end the opening phase at the summit.

She fired a total of 24 arrows into the highest-scoring 11-ring, a small circle in the centre of the 10-ring which is about 25 per cent of the size.

Girard also managed 36 arrows in the 10-ring en-route to topping the pile.

The top two qualifiers advance straight through to the semi-finals of the individual competition.

Christine Gauthe will join Girard in the last four after ending on a score of 858.

The French archer also maintained her position from yesterday as she struck the 11-ring 19 times, improving her score from 442.

In the men's barebow the lead changed hands, as Sweden's Fredrik Lundmark climbed up from second place and into the lead.

He climbed from 455 to 937 and sent 30 arrows into the 11-ring.

France's David Jackson ended second on a score of 921, including 21 arrows in the 11-ring, to also book his semi-final place.

The Italian improved his score of 409 to 807, hitting the 11-ring 19 times.

American Calvin Smock ended second on 796 and can also prepare for the last four.

Team qualification was topped by Italy's men and the United States women.

Individual action begins in Lac la Biche tomorrow.

The 3D archery concept is a subset of field archery, focusing on shooting at life-size models of game.
