Their men's team of Vitor Ishiy, Eric Jouti and Gustavo Tsuboi secured gold, while their female compatriots Caroline Kumahara, Bruna Takahashi and Jessica Yamada had to settle for silver.

Ishiy, Jouti and Tsuboi recorded a 3-1 victory against Puerto Rico in the final in Asunción.

Tsuboi earned an 11-4, 11-7, 11-9 victory against Angel Naranjo before easing to an 11-4, 11-5, 11-3 triumph over Daniel Gonzalez.

Jouti added to the tally with an 11-9, 10-12, 11-2, 11-9 win against Brian Afanador.

Puerto Rico's sole point came in a 9-11, 11-3, 11-7, 6-11, 11-9 victory for Afanador and Gonzalez against Ishiy and Jouti.

Brazil reached the final with a 3-1 win against Americans Kanak Jha, Nikhil Kumar and Zhang Kai.

The Canadian trio of Jeremy Hazin, Edward Ly and Marko Medjugorac were defeated 3-0 by Puerto Rico in the semi-finals. 

The Brazilian women were overcome 3-1 by the American line-up of Lily Zhang, Crystal Wang and Yue Wu in a match that went the distance.

Bruna Takahashi earned both of Brazil's points, recording a 12-10, 8-11, 11-9, 11-6 win against Crystal Wang and a 12-10, 11-9, 8-11, 7-11, 11-6 triumph against Wu.

The victory went to the US as Wang saw off Yamada 11-7, 6-11, 11-6, 9-11, 11-9 and Zhang defeated Kumahara 11-6, 8-11, 11-7, 7-11, 11-7.

Zhang and Wu combined to win 11-7, 11-9, 9-11, 11-7 against Yamada and Kuamahara in a 3-2 overall triumph.

Brazil won 3-1 in their semi-final against Chile, with the US reaching the final on a 3-0 scoreline against Puerto Rico.

The singles tournaments continue tomorrow, with the finals taking place on Sunday (September 8).
