The Netherlands will seek to defend their European Baseball Championship when competition begins tomorrow in Germany.

The 12-team tournament will take place in Bonn and Solingen, with nations split into two groups.

Defending champions the Netherlands feature in Group A with the host nation Germany.

Czech Republic, Sweden, Britain and Israel complete the line-up.

Spain and Italy, the 2016 silver and bronze medallists, respectively, headline Group B.

They are joined by Belgium, France, Croatia and Austria.

The top four teams at the conclusion of the round robin group phase will advance to the quarter-finals.

Bonn will host the three of the quarter-finals on September 13, with Solingen staging one match.

The semi-finals will be held the following day.

The gold medal match and third place playoff will also take place on September 14.

Classification matches will be held at the tournament, with the bottom two teams suffering relegation to the second tier.

The top five teams from the tournament will progress to the Africa/Europe qualification event for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

The event will offer one direct spot to Tokyo 2020, with the second place team advancing to a final qualification tournament.
