The World Cup Finals will take place in the Italian ski resort from March 18 to 22.

Organisers say the app will help improve the user experience and storytelling of the event.

The app will also continue the build-up to the 2021 Alpine Skiing World Championships, also in Cortina.

The Cortina 2021 Organising Committee partnered with IQUII, a digital company which is part of Group Be, to create the app.

"The Fondazione Cortina 2021 team believes in technological and digital development," said Valerio Giacobbi, Fondazione Cortina 2021 chief executive.

"Innovation is one our drivers allowing us to look into the future, concretely and effectively.

"The birth of this app is another step on the path to the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2021 and for the Audi FIS World Cup Finals, we will test the possibilities that this tool offers."

The app is expected to give fans the opportunity to win prizes and exclusive experiences, as well as read and browse news from the World Cup Finals.

Photos and media content from each race will be included, along with results and the competition calendar.

Cortina 2021 Ambassadors will also contribute to the app, with fans having the opportunity to contact reigning women's Olympic downhill champion Sofia Goggia and former downhill star Kristian Ghedina, who won multiple World Cup medals during his career.

The app is expected to be updated as the World Cup Finals draw closer, with new features added to boost the fan experience - this will include gaming. 

The World Cup Finals and 2021 World Championships will be among the key events hosted by Cortina prior to the 2026 Winter Olympics, which will also take place in Milan.
