Nathan Chen of the United States stayed on track for his eighth consecutive International Skating Union (ISU) Grand Prix title after leading the men's short programme at the International de France.

The two-time world champion scored 102.48 at Patinoire Polesud in Grenoble to top the men's leaderboard. 

In second was Alexander Samarin of Russia in 98.48, while Kevin Aymoz of France was third with 82.50. 

Alena Kostornaia of Russia led the women's event going into the second day of competition, achieving 76.55.

Her compatriot, Olympic champion Alina Zagitova, was second with 74.24, with Mariah Bell of the United States sitting in third with 70.25.

There was more success for Russia in the pairs after Daria Pavliuchenko and Denis Khodykin finished top on 76.59 and Anastasia Mishina and Aleksandr Galliamov second on 73.77. 

Haven Denny and Brandon Frazier took third place with 68.65.

Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron of France led the ice dance after scoring 88.69, followed by Madison Chock and Evan Bates of the US on 80.69 and Charlene Guignard and Marco Fabbri of Italy on 79.65. 

The free skating competition will take place tomorrow, when action concludes.
