Duos from New Caledonia and Japan impressed with 100 per cent group stage records at the International Teqball Federation Asia-Pacific Beach Cup in Sanya.

Ten pairs are contesting a doubles event in China, being attended by Brazil's FIFA World Cup winner Ronaldinho.

New Caledonia's Aser Xuma and Etienne Cau Poanoui won Group A with four victories from four, defeating South Korea 20-18, Vanuatu 20-14, China A 20-8 and China B 20-11.

South Koreans Minsoo Park and Yujong Chung won their remaining three matches to finish second in the group and also advance to the semi-finals.

Akinori Wase and Daishuke Yajima of Japan were the stars in Group B, defeating Malaysia 20-11, Kuwait 20-14, India 20-8 and China C 20-7.

Malaysia's Muhammad Eizlan Rakhil Bin Abd Rahman and Shahul Hameed Al Barilan followed the Japanese through by winning their other three games.

Both semi-finals are tomorrow and will be followed by the gold and bronze medal matches.

Xuma and Poanoui will meet Rahman and Al Barilan, with Wase and Yajima taking on Park and Chung.

The competition is a taster of what is to come at next year's Asian Beach Games, also taking place in Sanya, where teqball will be an official medal sport for the first time.
