International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach has confirmed financial support for Aduvie International School in Nigerian capital Abuja.

The German visited the school during a trip to Africa last month and was left impressed by the students.

A new sports pavilion will now be provided by the IOC with Bach confirming the support in a letter to the Nigeria Olympic Committee.

"Let me thank you for arranging the visit to the Aduvie International School, where I was very impressed by the enthusiasm of the pupils for sports," Bach wrote.

"I would like to reconfirm the financial support of the IOC for the school's sports pavilion and the IOC-NOC Relations will contact you shortly."

Bach's main order of business in Nigeria was inaugurating the new headquarters of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) in Abuja, while he also met with the country's vice president Yemi Osinbajo.

He again used his letter to congratulate Nigeria for its work in the creation of the building.

"It was a great honour to join you at the official opening of the new ANOCA headquarters and I would like to reiterate my thanks to you for all your support to make this new home for all the National Olympic Committees in Africa a reality," said Bach.

"Following my return to Lausanne, I have sent a letter to the president of Nigeria, His Excellency Muhammadu Buhari, to inform him of the productive meeting we had with vice president Yemi Osinbajo, which allowed me to better understand the priorities and challenges of the sport movement in Nigeria."
