Australia won both the men and women's competition's at the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Oceania Tokyo 2020 team qualification tournament to book their place at the Olympic Games.

The Australian men's team had three matches to play at the Mornington Peninsula Table Tennis Association Stadium, beating their first opponent, Fiji, 3-0. 

David Powell and Kane Townsend overcame Wu Zhicong and Joshua Yee 11-5, 11-6, 11-2, before Xavier Dixon defeated Vicky Wu 11-2, 11-3, 11-7 and Townsend beat Yee 11-0, 11-6, 11-6.  

Australia's then secured another 3-0 win against Papua New Guinea, Townsend teaming up with Yan Xin to beat Gasika Sepa and Geoffrey Loi 11-3, 11-5, 11-6. 

Heming Hu recorded a comfortable 11-2, 11-2, 11-6 victory against David Loi, with Yan defeating Geoffrey Loi 11-6, 11-3, 11-6. 

To claim the single Olympic place available, Australia needed to get past New Zealand.

They yet again managed a 3-0 result, with Townsend and Yan winning 11-8, 11-8, 13-11 against Liu Tengteng and Xu Nathan. 

Hu beat Dean Shu 13-11, 11-5, 11-9 and Yan battled to finally overcome Xu 9-11, 11-9, 10-12, 11-3, 11-9. 

Fiji were Australia's only opponents in the women's competition, with the hosts securing yet another 3-0 clean sweep. 

Michelle Bromley and Melissa Tapper subjected Carolyn Li and Grace Rosi Yee to a 11-4, 11-4, 11-3 defeat, before Jian Fang Lay triumphed 11-2, 11-3, 11-3 against Sally Yee. 

The victory was confirmed when Tapper won 11-2, 11-3, 11-1 against Grace Rosi Yee. 

More Olympic spots will be on offer at the world qualification event due to take place January 22 to 26 in Gondomar in Portugal.
