Truesdale is ranked number one in the world in the over-58 kilograms K44 division and will be among the favourites when taekwondo makes its debut on the Paralympic Games debut at Tokyo 2020.

Her late grandfather Samuel, her father Eddie, uncles and cousins all served in the British Army or are currently serving.

The 30-year-old will help promote Broughton House in Salford,, which is being transformed into a Veteran Care Village in a £14 million ($18 million/€17 million) redevelopment.

"Broughton House provides fantastic support and care for ex-servicemen and women," Truesdale said. 

"Due to my family connections with the armed forces, it’s a charity that is very close to my heart and I’m so pleased to become an ambassador for it.

"I’m aiming to help raise funds and promote Broughton House as it enters a new era as a Veteran Care Village."

Chris Lindsay, chief executive of Broughton House, was pleased that one of Britain's brightest Paralympic stars had agreed to back the project.

Two-time world champion Truesdale, who was born without a lower left arm, won the Tokyo 2020 test event in September and has spoken previously about aiming to become the "Paralympic Jade Jones".

Jones won two Olympic gold medals in the 57kg at London 2012 and Rio 2016. 

"We’re delighted to announce Amy as our newest ambassador," Lindsay said.

"She comes from a military family and truly understands the veteran world and the care and support required.

"Over the next couple of years, as we transition to becoming a Veteran Care Village, Amy will be supporting us and we will be thrilled to have her on board to raise awareness of Broughton House.

"We wish her the best of luck on her journey to next year’s Paralympic Games."
