America's Chris Corning sealed the overall title in the International Ski Federation (FIS) Snowboard Big Air World Cup with victory on the home snow of Atlanta today in the fourth and final event of the season.

In the women's competition Reira Iwabuchi of Japan retained her overall title in similar style to Corning, winning on the day at the Sun Trust Park venue.

Corning had arrived with a 700 points-lead over Nic Laframboise of Canada, and a 1,000 point advantage over Kalle Jarvilehto of Finland.

The United States athlete made absolutely certain of the big prize by winning with a score of 177.25 points.

Laframboise secured overall second place by finishing one place behind Corning on 166.75 points, with Japan’s Ryoma Kimata coming third with 163.00.

Two other home athletes narrowly missed the podium – Justus Henkes and Sean Fitzsimons were fourth and fifth respectively on 158.25 and 157.00.

Iwabuchi, 18, had arrived as the Big Air rankings leader with 1,900 points.

She was still within range of a few other riders, including team-mate Miyabi Onitsuka and Katie Ormerod of Britain, but would have had to finish below sixth place for the first time in almost three years in order not to reclaim her title.

Iwabuchi needed no leeway, winning comfortably with 170.50 points ahead of another Japanese compatriot, Kokomo Murase, who totalled 159.50, and Canada’s Brooke Voigt, who scored 143.25.

Two-time slopestyle Olympic gold medallist and Pyeongchang 2018 Big Air silver medallist Jamie Anderson of the US finished sixth, one place behind Onitsuka.
