Practice is underway at the Sydney Indoor Archery Festival, which will start tomorrow as planned despite the bushfire crisis in Australia.

More than 150 archers from 20 countries are due to compete at the fourth leg of the 2020 Indoor Archery World Series.

As well as the main competition, there are events for youth, master, barebow, longbow and Para-archers.

Sydney is the sixth tournament on the Indoor Archery World Series 2019-20 calendar, joining events in Luxembourg, Macau, Rome, Nimes and Las Vegas.

Competition starts tomorrow with qualification in the compound women and recurve men categories.

After three events, Crispin Duenas leads the men's recurve standings on 1,189 points, from Markus Kuhrau on 1,173 with David Pasqualucci on 1,166.

Sarah Prieels leads the compound women's rankings on 1,779 points, from Paige Pearce on 1,761 and Tanja Jensen on 1,183.

Bushfires have been particularly bad in Sydney's state of New South Wales, but World Archery said competition would begin tomorrow as normal.

Two days of action will be held at Whitlam Centre in the city's Liverpool suburb.

"As has been widely reported, Australia is currently suffering from severe bushfires, particularly in the states of New South Wales and Victoria," World Archery said.

"World Archery would like to express its support for the population of the affected areas."
