Canada's Sébastien Toutant and the United States' Julia Marino won the respective men's and women's slopestyle events at the International Ski Federation (FIS) Snowboard World Cup in Laax.

Toutant scored 87.25 points in his second run in the Swiss resort, beating the American Redmond Gerard by a margin of 1.80.

Gerard's fellow American Justus Henkes finished 4.92 points off the pace in third place.

"I took a really heavy slam in practice [and was] questioning if I was going to compete in the final, but I'm glad I did," Toutant was reported as saying by Eurosport.

In the women's event, Marino triumphed with 81.30 points.

She was followed in the standings by Japan's Reira Iwabuchi with 76.95 points and Great Britain's Katie Ormerod on 64.20.

With Laax being the first FIS Snowboard World Cup stop of the season in slopestyle, Toutant and Marino have gone straight to the top of the overall standings with 1,000 points each.

Action concludes tomorrow, with men's and women's halfpipe competitions scheduled.
