Defending men's skeleton champion Alexander Tretiakov has won the sixth race of the season at the BMW International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF) World Cup in Königssee, Germany.

The Russian registered a crucial third win of the campaign, pushing Olympic champion Sungbin Yun into second place.

This was despite the South Korean setting a track record of 49.98 seconds in his first run.

However, he was +0.06 behind Tretiakov in the final standings.

Bronze was a surprise, with Germany's Felix Keisinger coming from nowhere on his home track.

The 21-year-old was back in 12th after heat one, but pulled off the best time of heat two (50.04) to make the podium.

There was huge disappointment for previous front-runner and world champion Martins Dukurs of Latvia, who could only finish seventh.

It's all change in the overall standings, with Tretiakov now on top with 1,243 points, ahead of Dukurs in second (1,215) and Yun third (1,189).

The women's competition is also too close to call, after world champion Tina Hermann of Germany won her second race of the season, setting a track record on the way.

Her time of 51.24 was too good for team mate Jacqueline Lölling, who finished 0.18 behind.

Defending World Cup title holder Elena Nikitina of Russia was 0.41 back in third, marking her 15th podium finish in the BMW IBSF World Cup.

In the overall standings, Lölling has 1,262 points and has extended her lead over Austria's Janine Flock (1,214) - who finished fifth today - and world champion Tina Hermann of Germany in third (1,198).

Tomorrow sees the 2-man and 2-woman bobsleigh competitions.
