A group of Australia's top sports have come together to share resources and support communities devastated by bushfires.

The current death toll stands at 33, including around one billion native animals - there are also fears the fires could reignite, with temperatures set to soar again.

As a response to the crisis, the Coalition of Major Professional and Participation Sports (COMPPS) has announced a long-term recovery plan for the rebuild.

The group is represented by chief executives from Australian Football League (AFL), Rugby Australia, Cricket Australia, Football Federation Australia, National Rugby League, Netball Australia and Tennis Australia.

Working together with government and relevant agencies, COMPPS is looking to rebuild sporting facilities through a range of funding platforms, including contributions and donations raised through various initiatives.

"The generosity demonstrated through the outpouring of support during and in the immediate aftermath of these terrible fires from sporting organisations across the country has been incredibly heartwarming," Federal Sports Minister Senator Richard Colbeck said.

COMPPS chair and Tennis Australia chief executive Craig Tiley said the work is continuing.

"We want to be able to raise more and by joining forces we believe we can begin rebuilding the spirit of communities through facility redevelopment," Tiley said.

"As a first step we will conduct an audit of affected facilities and clubs across all sports."

Netball Australia's chief executive Marne Fechner and Cricket Australia chief executive Kevin Roberts echoed the sentiment.

"At the heart of every community that has been affected by these devastating bushfires is a netball club, footy ground, cricket team or tennis court whose members have lost something," Fechner said.

"Last year, we saw first-hand the devastation brought by severe drought and know there is likely to be more destruction caused by fires and other disasters in the future,” Roberts said.

AFL chief Gillon McLachlan said sport could play an important role at a difficult time.

"We hope this initiative will have a lasting impact for the future, no matter what your team colours are or what code you support," McLachlan said.
