Competition is due to take place at Ranger’s Training Pitch Liberty Estate from November 21 to 29 in the Nigerian city.

It will be the first time an IBSA Blind Football World Championships takes place in Africa, although Enugu hosted the Blind Football African Championships last month.

"We are at an exciting time with the development of women’s football," Ulrich Pfisterer, the IBSA Blind Football Committee chairperson, said. 

"After several training camps and competitions which attracted teams from around the world, we felt it was time to create a much larger platform from which to grow.

"I am delighted to be creating history in Africa, a continent which has an unrivalled passion for football."

Bina Foundation, a non-profit organisation for people with special needs, will co-host the tournament. 

The announcement follows the news that women’s IBSA football competitions will be inclusive for B1, B2 and B3 athletes wearing eyeshades, after IBSA relaxed the rules to encourage the development of the game.

In the men's game, players who are completely blind, B1, play separately to those who are partially sighted, B2 and B3.

IBSA has been developing women's blind football over the past three years, with development camps and tournaments held in Vienna in 2017 and Tokyo last February.
