France’s 22-year-old Clement Noël will seek to earn a decisive advantage on the home slopes of Chamonix tomorrow and make up ground on the two men currently above him in the International Ski Federation (FIS) Alpine Ski World Cup slalom standings.

After eight of the 12 scheduled races, Norway’s Henrik Kristoffersen leads with 552 points, ahead of Daniel Yule of Switzerland, who has 495.

Noël, who won two World Cup slaloms and twice finished third last month, needs to maintain that level to make inroads at the venue which hosted the 1924 Winter Olympics.

Kristoffersen, who won the last World Cup slalom at Schladming in Austria on January 28, also leads the overall men’s World Cup standings on 877, 55 points clear of France’s Alexis Pinturault, who is two points clear of Norway’s Aleksander Aamodt Kilde.

Sunday will see the Chamonix slopes given over to parallel giant slalom (PG) racing.

In the first of the two scheduled PG races this season, at Alta Badia in Italy on December 23, victory went to Norway’s Rasmus Windingstad, who thus carries 100 points into this weekend’s decisive race.

Germany’s Stefan Lutz arrives with 80 points having finished second in Alta Badia, with third-placed Roland Leitinger of Austria on 60.
