China has postponed its Olympic Swimming Trials and National Championships because of the coronavirus outbreak.

According to CCTV, the event in Qingdao has been shifted from March 28 to April 4 to the provisional dates of May 10 to 16.

Finals at the competition will be held in the morning to mirror the schedule of swimming events at this year's Olympic Games in Tokyo.

The coronavirus, given the official title of COVID-19 by the World Health Organization, has killed 2,250 people and infected over 76,000 worldwide.

The outbreak has had a significant impact on sport, with a host of events cancelled, postponed or relocated outside of China, where the virus originated.

Other aquatics events to be affected include the Chinese leg of the Diving World Series, cancelled by the International Swimming Federation (FINA) last month.

FINA also confirmed results from the 2018 Asian Games will be used to determine Tokyo 2020 qualifiers, following the cancellation of the Asian Water Polo Championships in Kazakhstan.

The World Indoor Athletics Championships in Nanjing, the Formula One Chinese Grand Prix and Olympic qualifiers in sports including football have also been rescheduled because of the outbreak.
