The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) has approved Universe Point as its official footwear supplier and partner for a four-year period.

It comes after what the WFDF claims was a "competitive bidding process" that was held in late 2019.

The exclusive agreement, which officially began last month, will run through to 2023 and Universe Point will be granted exclusive sales rights at WFDF-sanctioned events.

"We are delighted to award Universe Point the official footwear supplier contract again after a successful relationship over the last couple years," WFDF President Robert "Nob" Rauch said.

"They identified the marketplace need for Ultimate cleats designed specifically for Ultimate athletes.

"Their footwear is winning acclaim at every level of our sport and their partnership support will assist us as we continue to grow Ultimate and all flying disc sports."

Based in Mendham in the United States, Universe Point started in December 2016 and was co-founded by the wife and husband team of Bérangère Barateig and Ed Sisson after years of observing that competitive Ultimate footwear left something to be desired.

After working and testing their product with Ultimate players at various levels, and selecting a Mexican-based factory with extensive athletic footwear experience, Universe Point cleats became available to the public in 2017.

They recently launched their 2.0 model.

"Universe Point is extremely pleased to continue our partnership with WFDF," Barateig and Sisson said.

"Continuing our partnership represents a great opportunity to showcase the quality of our footwear products to a worldwide audience for the next four years, while driving greater awareness on global initiatives such as gender equity, Spirit of the Game and helping develop Ultimate in new countries.

"We are thankful for the amazing support the Ultimate community has shown us since 2017.

"We enjoy engaging with the many players, teams and organisers in countries all over the world and look forward to deepening these relationships thanks to the continuation of WFDF’s partnership."

The WFDF has also announced that it has renewed its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Beach Ultimate Lovers Association (BULA) for a two-year period.

It is claimed both WFDF and BULA wish to continue a working arrangement to their mutual benefit and for the benefit of the Beach Ultimate community.

The MoU outlines the ways that WFDF and BULA will continue to support the growth and development of the sport and cooperate with each other in these efforts.

WFDF, meanwhile, will be fully assuming the organisation of world and continental national team championships in order to standardise event organisation.

"WFDF and BULA have been formally working together since 2011 to promote the growth and development of the discipline of Beach Ultimate," Rauch said.

"Beach Ultimate has experienced tremendous growth and we are both committed to work to see that continue."

Sofia de Campos Pereira, BULA's managing director, added: "I believe that our partnership with the WFDF has been a great learning experience and important for the global growth of Beach Ultimate.

"In the coming years, BULA is looking forward to continuing to work towards helping the sport and spirit of Beach Ultimate develop worldwide."
