Norway's Jarl Magnus Riiber won the provisional competition round of the Gundersen large hill HS130/10 kilometres event on the opening day of the International Ski Federation (FIS) Nordic Combined World Cup in Lahti.

Riiber, who was confirmed as the overall FIS Nordic Combined World Cup champion in Trondheim on Sunday (February 23) after recording his 13th win in 15 races this season, came out on top in the Finnish city with 135.5 points.

Fellow Norwegian Jens Lurås Oftebro finished second with 132 points, while home athlete Ilkka Herola came third with 127.9.

The final is due to take place on Sunday (March 1).

All 46 athletes who competed today will contest it.

The final will be preceded by tomorrow's team sprint HS130/2x7.5km event.

Lahti is one of the few places where Riiber has never stood on the podium.

The 22-year-old can become the most successful Norwegian Nordic combined skier ever by claiming his 27th World Cup victory.
