Japan enjoyed a good day in men's qualifying at the International Table Tennis Federation Qatar Open as all three of their players progressed to the main draw in Doha.

Yukiya Uda came through in seven games against Slovenia's Darko Jorgic at the Aspire Dome, 11-7, 8-11, 11-8, 5-11, 9-11, 11-8, 11-9.

Uda was the runner-up at the Hungarian Open, the last event held on the circuit.

He was joined in progressing at the World Tour Platinum event by Masataka Morizono, who knocked out France's Tristan Flore 11-8, 11-7, 6-11, 11-7, 5-11, 11-6.

Takuya Jin also advanced for Japan by downing the Czech Republic's Tomas Polansky 11-9, 8-11, 11-5, 11-7, 11-7.

Another player to reach the men's main draw was Spain's Alvaro Robles, who is one half of the World Championship doubles silver medallists.

He showed he is adept in the singles as well by beating India's world number 31 Sathiyan Gnanasekaran 11-9, 6-11, 11-5, 11-9, 11-4.

Two favourites in the women's qualifiers suffered defeat, including Romania's Bernadette Szocs who lost a 2-0 lead to exit to Germany's Shan Xiaona 8-11, 8-11, 11-8, 11-5, 11-8, 13-11.

German Petrissa Solja was also knocked out as Singapore's Yu Mengyu came through 4-11, 11-7, 10-12, 11-9, 8-11, 11-9, 12-10.

The main draw begins in Doha tomorrow.
