Olympic champion Eleftherios Petrounias of Greece topped rings qualification at the International Gymnastics Federation Apparatus World Cup in Baku.

Petrounias, gold medallist in the rings event at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, scored 15.100 to qualify for the final in style at National Gymnastics Arena.

Liu Yang of China was only 0.100 points adrift in second place, while his compatriot Lan Xingyu did enough for third with a total of 14.933.

Double world champion and Olympic bronze medallist Fan Yilin impressed in the women's uneven bars, scoring 15.133 points to book a place in the final with ease.

Fan's performance was too good for the rest of the field as Russian Anastasiia Iliankova finished second on 14.766 points.

Brazilian Rebecca Andrade qualifed in third after her routine was rewarded with 14.233 points.

China's You Hao, a former world champion and Rio 2016 bronze medallist, topped the men's parallel bars qualification round by scoring 15.000 points.

Vladislav Poliashov of Russia was second on 14.900 points, with Turkey's Ferhat Arican third on 14.475.

Slovenia's Teja Belak, gold medallist at last year's European Games in Minsk, qualified first in the women's vault after scoring an average of 14.199 points.

Belak narrowly edged out France's Coline Devillard, second on 14.150vpoints, while Marina Nekrasova guaranteed the hosts a place in the final on 14.133.

Qualification at the event in the Azerbaijani capital, which offers Tokyo 2020 qualification points, is set to continue tomorrow.
