Finals at the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) Apparatus World Cup in Baku have been cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Two days of finals had been scheduled for this weekend at the National Gymnastics Arena following two days of qualification.

The decision to cancel the finals, set for tomorrow and Sunday (March 15), was made after the conclusion of the second day of qualifying.

The FIG has not yet confirmed the move but National Federations in France and Canada revealed the decision on social media.

It is not yet clear whether the FIG will use qualification standings as the basis for results from the event, part of the qualification process for this year's Olympic Games in Tokyo.

The cancellation comes after the Azerbaijan Government imposed restrictions on events involving a certain number of participants, which are due to come into effect tomorrow.

The World Cup in the Azerbaijani capital is the latest to be affected by the outbreak of COVID-19, which has so far killed 5,375 people and infected more than 142,000 worldwide.

Azerbaijan has reported 15 cases of the virus, which has spread to more than 130 countries, and one death.
