Following discussions with National Federations, promoters and event organisers, FIVB has cancelled or postponed a number of events across its three disciplines. 

The Beach Volleyball World Tour five-star event in Rome, scheduled for June 9 to 14, has been cancelled, with all involved parties committing to hosting a successful event in 2021 instead. 

A four-star event in Moscow from June 3 to 7 has also been cancelled.

One-star contests in Brazil, Indonesia and Greece, set to take place from June 11 to 14, have all been postponed. 

The men and women’s Volleyball Challenger Cup 2020 events, due to be hosted in Gondomar in Portugal and Zadar in Croatia respectively on June 24 to 28, have been called off until further notice. 

Following the postponement of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games to 2021, FIVB revealed it is in contact with the International Olympic Committee regarding the revision of the beach volleyball qualification system. 

Volleyball qualifying places have already been decided and so will not be impacted by the postponement. 

In addition, following a request from the Argentinian Volleyball Federation, a decision has been made to cancel the Snow Volleyball World Tour event in Bariloche in the country.

This was scheduled to take place from August 20 to 23. 

"All the above-mentioned changes have been adopted as the fairest solution for the players and in the best interests of everyone involved," FIVB said.

"The FIVB stands in solidarity with all members of the global volleyball family and expresses its deepest sympathies to those affected by the outbreak."
