Martin Richard has been appointed as Board director by the International Wheelchair Rugby Federation (IWRF).

The Canadian will begin in the role immediately and brings with him digital media and broadcast expertise from the Olympic and Paralympic Movement.

His previous work includes innovating a sports digital media platform for the Canadian Paralympic Committee, as well as their broadcast strategy for the Paralympic Games.

Richard has received industry awards and accolades for his work in this area.

"I am very honoured to have the opportunity to work with the leadership of the IWRF Board of Directors and look forward to start contributing to the organisation," he said.

"This is a truly exciting sport with a strong community, and I am committed to both help grow the sport globally, and increase the awareness of its incredible athletes worldwide."

Richard comes in as American Gary Pate steps down for personal reasons.

"I would like to thank Gary for his years of service to the IWRF, the sport globally, and of course to wheelchair rugby's development in the USA," said IWRF President Richard Allcroft.

"I know we will be seeing him again and he is certainly not lost to the sport.

"I'm looking forward to working with Martin and I know he will contribute massively to the development of the sport."

The IWRF also confirmed this week that Steve Griffiths will be their new chief executive, replacing Eron Main.
