Christian Flury has been appointed to replace Olympic gold medallist Hippolyt Kempf as team manager of cross-country skiing at Swiss-Ski.

Flury takes over from Kempf following his promotion to Nordic director of the national governing body.

Flury has been responsible for various areas within cross-country skiing in Switzerland over the past decade, including team manager for World Cup and World Championships squads.

"It is both an honour and a great obligation to be instrumental in shaping the further development of Swiss cross-country skiing and to ensure the best possible conditions for our ambitious team," said Flury.

"I look forward to working with the athletes and the teams of coaches, whom I already know very well from my previous work and in whom I have great confidence.

"This of course makes my start as team manager of cross-country skiing at Swiss-Ski a lot easier."

In other coaching changes in the sport, cross-country team leader Matti Haavisto and branch manager Eero Hietanen have departed their roles with the Finnish Ski Association.

Haavisto and Hietanen have decided not to extend their contracts with the organisation amid the coronavirus pandemic, which has impacted training schedules for athletes in both summer and winter sports.

"Our athletes are experienced and each has a personal coach as their backing," Haavisto said.

"A transitional period is still underway and we do not really know how long the emergency will last.

"We support athletes in our best efforts."
