Students at the Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation (THF) at the Azraq Refugee Camp in Amman marked the United Nations (UN) International Day of Sport for Development and Peace by producing a series of drawings.

The International Day of Sport for Development and Peace took place on April 6.

The UN-supported event focused on the health benefits of participating in sporting and physical activity, especially now amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Organisers asked people to be active, stay healthy and demonstrate solidarity at home during the period of uncertainty and social distancing.

The event was supported by the students at the THF centre at Amman in Jordan.

World Taekwondo highlighted several of the drawings on social media, with participants including taekwondo and the THF logo among their pieces.

The post also included a message from World Taekwondo President Chungwon Choue, with the official stating that “Peace is more precious than triumph”.

Choue announced the creation of the THF, which works to teach taekwondo to refugees and displaced people, in 2015.

Since then an academy has been built at the Azraq Refugee Camp, with other projects up and running in countries including Djibouti, Turkey, Colombia and Rwanda.

The International Day of Sport for Development and Peace also featured Peace and Sport's white card initiative.

The initiative is aimed at showcasing the positive power of sport in the quest for peace and social inclusion.

The core message of the 2020 campaign was: "Behind each #WhiteCard, there is a story".

The message aimed to highlight stories of individuals and beneficiaries who have been positively impacted by sport all around the globe.
