World Lacrosse have announced Panama have become the 66th member of the International Federation.

Panama Lacrosse is led by President Alfonso Ramsey and chief executive Ryland Huyghue.

World Lacrosse development director Bob DeMarco welcomed the organisation, after their membership was confirmed.

"We are all very excited to welcome Panama Lacrosse to the World Lacrosse family," said DeMarco, World Lacrosse Board member.

"Panama becomes the 17th member from the Pan-American region and we are thrilled to be part of their growth."

World Lacrosse say Panama have become the fourth new member to join the federation in the last 10 months.

Panama follow Ghana, Barbados and Lithuania in becoming members of the International Federation.

The governing body says its membership has grown by more than 240 per cent since 2002.

World Lacrosse hosted its largest-ever Women's U19 World Championship last year, with the competition featuring 22 teams.

Nine competed for the first time.

A total of 20 teams also competed at the 2019 Men's Indoor World Championship, with four debutants.

World Lacrosse say the organisation is expanding educational resources and services provided to its members and opened its first-ever headquarters in Colorado Springs.

The governing body, led by President Sue Redfern and chief executive Jim Scherr, was granted provisional recognition by the IOC in November 2018.
