The World Squash Library is launching its first compendium of the sport's World Championships, covering the inaugural Men's World Open in 1976.

In an attempt to preserve the history of the sport for future generations, the collection will feature dates, venues and results for each event since 1976.

It will also include photos of champions and programme cover scans.

Those photos of the champions will also be available to download for free from the library in digital or print form.

Former World Squash Federation (WSF) chief executive officer Andrew Shelley established the library in October and will use his time to create a full history of the sport.

Shelley said, "The Men's Open compilation is the first of a series which will ultimately comprise the Women's Open and both world junior Individual events, followed by the senior and junior World Team Championships too.

"Working with the incomparable www.squashinfo.com platform to complete the results, the library archive materials have enabled this site to make available a comprehensive and uniquely searchable digital archive of all the results to date.

"Bringing these together with the other elements in one place are all part of the library ethos."

Since 1976, there have been 36 men's and women's World Championships with the last editions taking part in Doha in Qatar and Cairo in Egypt respectively.
