International Orienteering Federation (IOF) has confirmed the postponement of the Junior World Orienteering Championships in Turkey due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The competition had been scheduled to take place from June 28 to July 3.

The IOF said it was working with organisers on the potential rescheduling of the event in the autumn.

Rescheduling the competition will include coordination to dates with the World Orienteering Championships in Denmark.

The World Championships had been scheduled to take place from July 7 to 11 in the Triangle Region, but were postponed earlier this month.

A decision was also taken to extend the cancellation of all world ranking events from May 31 to July 31.

The IOF took the decision to ensure the fairness of their world ranking system, with the situation set to be reviewed again around July 1.

Several competitions still remain on the IOF calendar for 2020, with the European Trail Orienteering Championships the next scheduled event.

Competition is due to take place from July 14 to 18 in Finland, with a decision set to be made on May 31 over whether the event can take place.
