The Swedish Paralympic Committee (SPK) has received over SEK2 million (£162,000/$203,000/€184,000) from betting company ATG as part of an agreement between the two organisations.

SPK chairperson Åsa Llinares Norlin said the record amount of money would go towards Sweden's preparations for the Paralympic Games in Tokyo, postponed until 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic.

"The collaboration with ATG means a lot to us," Norlin said.

"It gives us an opportunity to help our Paralympians with the preparations they need to succeed.

"That means a lot more this year, when the Paralympics were postponed one year, which requires another year of preparation."

ATG chief executive Hasse Lord Skarplöth said the company was happy to support the SPK in its plans for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, rescheduled for August 24 to September 5 in 2021.

"In times like these, when many have been tough in Sweden and the world, it is extra important to stick to their dreams and goals," said Skarplöth.

"That is why it feels extra good to be able to hand out a cheque which this year is a record-breaking number for Sweden's Paralympic team and hopefully can help them reach their dreams and goals in Tokyo next year."

Sweden have won a total of 637 medals at the Summer Paralympic Games, which includes 235 golds.

The country finished 49th on the medals table at the 2016 Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro.
