Short track and speed skating is the focus of the latest online training sessions ©ISU

Speed skating and short track are under the microscope in the latest online sessions conducted by International Skating Union (ISU) Centres of Excellence to help athletes during the coronavirus pandemic.

The “Keep Training!” series was launched last month and the latest schedule runs up until Friday (May 15).

Coaches and athletes are helping to deliver the sessions, along with specialists in sport psychology and mental performance

US Speedskating coach Wilma Boomstra has delivered a session on dryland training, while mental performance consultant Alayne Hing led a web seminar on goal-setting fundamentals.

Speed Skating Canada coaches Remmelt Eldering and Mark Wild will hold a session titled "Slide board, Dryland and Strength" tomorrow.

Vancouver 2010 Olympic bronze medallist Simon Kuipers will lead another dryland training session on Thursday (May 14).


A session on flexibility and tai chi Movements will be held on Friday, led by Bai Xue and Ran Qianxin.

The ISU says the sessions are suitable for skaters of all levels.

Sessions are being delivered as part of the ISU’s "#UpAgain" campaign which was launched in November with the aim of inspiring fans and athletes throughout the 2019-2020 season.

The theme has taken on a greater significance during the coronavirus pandemic.

Figure skating sessions have already been delivered as part of the initiative.
