The Rwanda National Olympic and Sports Committee (RNOSC) has donated hand sanitister to 700 taxi-moto riders to help with the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
RNOSC vice-president Félicité Rwemalika was among the officials who attended the donation event, held to coincide with Olympic Day.
The New Times reports cases of COVID-19 have spiked in the country in recent weeks.
According to latest figures, there have been nearly 800 cases and two deaths from COVID-19 in Rwanda.
Rwemalika, a member of the International Olympic Committee, said the RNOSC wanted to help those worst affected by the coronavirus crisis in the nation.
"Motor riders are one of the most exposed people, and at the same time the hand sanitisers will also protect their passengers," she said.
"That is why we chose this particular group for the donation.
"We are happy to join the Government’s efforts in tackling the pandemic."
The RNOSC traditionally organises youth sports events on Olympic Day, celebrated on June 23.
"In recent years, we usually marked the day by organising youth competitions but unfortunately it was not possible this time round due to the COVID-19 pandemic," Rwemalika added.
