Para-taekwondo athletes from the Americas came together to take part in an online training event.

The inaugural International Virtual Field Training gathering was organised by the Argentine governing body with assistance from the Brazilian Taekwondo Confederation's (CBKTD) Technical Commission.

Five days of sessions were held with some exclusively aimed at athletes in the K40 class.

As well as taking part in training, those involved participated in lectures on subjects including rules, physiotherapy, physical conditioning and psychology.

The event was free to join and helped to fill the sporting void caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Taekwondo is due to make its Paralympic Games debut at Tokyo 2020, which has been postponed to next year due to COVID-19.

"The camp is very important to show athletes that, regardless of the situation that the countries of the Americas are in at this moment of the pandemic, we all have the same goal of training at home and waiting for it to pass," said CBTKD coordinator Rodrigo Ferla.

"In addition to giving the opportunity to train together to athletes with international prominence, such as world medalists and those classified for the Paralympics, another important factor is bringing in new Para-taekwondo athletes.

"Soon we will be face to face again."
