The organisations say the "Wheelchair Basketball Training Zone" includes a comprehensive library of instructional videos and resources featuring Paralympians and NWBA players.

The training zone aims to provide resources with the intention to help grow the sport and develop athletes already in the game.

The CAF and NWBA expressed hope the training zone will make the sport more accessible to those with disabilities and increase diversity, youth and female participation.

"We are proud to partner with the NWBA to bring together the best players, techniques, skills, resources and distribution platforms to make the sport more accessible," said Virginia Tinley, CAF chief executive director.

"Our shared goal is to introduce new people to the sport and further develop the global wheelchair basketball community with new training content that will educate, inspire and push personal performance."

The training zone will initially feature 16 instructional videos of skills and drills, which are aimed at both beginner and advanced level players.

The videos will feature modifications specific to various functions of abilities for different levels of play to build strength and mobility specific to the game.

Ball handling, shooting and chair agility will be among the areas explored, with a focus on strength and conditioning for adaptive athletes.

The CAF and NWBA say that as gyms re-open and athletes can train together, videos of on court workouts will be available for team training.

The training zone has been supported by several stars of the sport, who feature as elite coaches.

United States’ men’s co-captain Steve Serio is among the coaches, as well as fellow Rio 2016 Paralympic champion Megan Blunk.

Trevon Jenifer, Courtney Ryan, Nate Hinze and Abby Dunkin also feature.

Videos will also be accessible on the CAF website and the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committees (USOPC) Mobile Coach.

The mobile coach application provides resources for coaches and players from the USOPC.

The training zone has been developed with the support of Nike, a long-term partner of the CAF and NWBA.

CAF partner Toyota also supported the development of the zone, as well as Paralympic athletes, NBA and WNBA teams, US Paralympics and the USOPC.

"The collaboration will not only showcase how our elite Paralympic athletes train to compete at the highest levels of the sport, but also raise awareness for those who are new to the game," said Will Waller, NWBA chief executive.

"We’ve partnered with Paralympic, professional and junior athletes from all over the world to bring the growing sport of basketball to everyone."
