Jody Cundy_in_action_in_GB_kitOctober 2 - Double Beijing 2008 Paralympic champion Jody Cundy bettered his own world record in the flying 200 metre race as he secured a blistering time of 10.805sec at the British National Cycling Championships in Manchester.

The event saw Cundy – who is a right leg amputee below the knee – take on the top able body cyclists in Britain and his performance in the qualifiers saw him beat his own world record of 10.97.

But despite the performance, the 32-year-old from Cambridgeshire lost out in the next round to David Daniell, who finished second to four-time Olympic champion Sir Chris Hoy in the final.

"I felt in good form and just went out to set as fast a time as possible and I was 11th best qualifier," said Cundy, who won three Paralympic gold medals in the sport of swimming before switching to the sport of cycling following Athens 2004.

Cundy was also in the open kilo championships and finished in fifth place in 1min 05.8sec.

There was also an unofficial world record for Cundy's Para-sprint team in open competition when sixth in the qualifiers.

Cundy is likely to be one of Britain's biggest medal hopes at the London 2012 Paralympics after showing blistering form this year that saw him claim two gold medals at the 2011 Para-cycling World Championships in Italy earlier this year.
