Six-time Olympic champion Viktor Ahn is understood to be the latest star to be tasked with coaching Chinese athletes ahead of Beijing 2022.

According to reports in South Korea, Ahn is looking to pass on his speed skating skills to the host nation.

Ahn is the most decorated Olympic short track speed skater in history having won three golds each for South Korea and Russia.

He announced his retirement in April at the age of 34 but is now believed to be helping Chinese skaters.

His arrival would further strengthen China’s coaching team having already appointed several retired Winter Olympic champions.

The star-studded list features speed skater Shani Davis, biathletes Ole Einar Bjoerndalen and wife Darya Domracheva and bobsledders Andre Lange and Pierre Lueders.

Ahn’s appointment would also be a boost to China’s short track programme which suffered a blow when Wang Meng stepped down as head coach in April after less than a year in the position.
