Pizza chain Papa John’s is aiming to raise £250,000 ($330,000/€280,000) for ParalympicsGB with a star trio eyeing up a slice of the mouth-watering six-figure sum.

The American franchise has become a ParalympicsGB partner as the national governing body prepares for next year’s postponed Paralympic Games in Tokyo.

With the partnership understood to last until the end of 2021, Papa John’s is pledging to lend its support by fund-raising and joining British stars David Weir, Alfie Hewett and Alice Tai on their journey to the Games.

Weir, a six-time Paralympic gold medallist and eight-time winner of the London Marathon is gearing up for his fifth appearance at the Games.

Hewett, a Grand Slam champion in wheelchair tennis, picked up Paralympic two silver medals in Rio 2016.

Tai, a 21-year-old swimmer is a European, world, Commonwealth and Paralympic champion.

We are Limitless, a digital marking campaign launched by Papa John’s, aims to raise awareness of how each athlete overcomes challenges and acts as a rallying cry to generate the quarter-0f-a-million pounds for ParalympicsGB.

"I’m thrilled to be an ambassador for Papa John’s as preparations continue for Tokyo," Weir said.

"As Paralympians, we are always looking to smash records and overcome adversity, and it’s great that Papa John’s is urging its customers to do the same and raise vital funds for Paralympic sport."

Giles Codd, marketing director of Papa John’s UK, said the chain was "extremely proud" to be partnering with ParalympicsGB.

"The inspirational work that ParalympicsGB does to support their athletes is so important and we’re delighted that we’re able to help by raising money and awareness," he said.

Mike Sharrock, chief executive of ParalympicsGB, added: "We are delighted to launch this exciting new fundraising partnership on the day the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games was originally scheduled to begin.

"The delay has presented us with challenges and opportunities, and we are confident with the support of the British public our talented ParalympicsGB athletes can inspire and unite the nation once again with their performances in Tokyo."
